I was brought up at Bulls and later farmed at Mangamahu. In 1990, after 23 years at Mangamahu, I moved to Wanganui to manage a Kiwifruit packhouse and coolstorage company, retiring in 2016.
Apart from my school years, I took my first art classes (drawing) in 1998 aged 58 and regularly attended classes at C.E.S and UCOL. First drawing , then pastel painting, printmaking, sculpture and oil painting resulted in a variety of art works without an especially focused direction. That is perhaps a result of my very late start and my determination to experience as much as possible in this fascinating world of art that provides such interest, satisfaction and relaxation.
I have exhibited in the Pataka Gallery, Box Art Exhibitions (Sculpture); Forest and Bird Protection Society, photography (Merit award), Kodak Gold photography (Merit award); NZ Photographic Society, International slide exhibition, (natural history slide); and in the Sarjeant Gallery, Whanganui Arts Reviews, 2003-2013 and 2015-2017 with a variety of media.
I am an enthusiastic photographer and also enjoy writing. In 2016 I published a small book about the life and the paintings of the ex-patriate Whanganui painter, Herbert Ivan Babbage (1875-1916).
