Laura Buchanan

Laura is a ceramic artist, working from her home studio at Waiinu Beach, located between Taranaki and Whanganui.
Her work is known under the alter ego ‘Lulu’, her childhood nickname.
The ocean and natural environment offer her inspiration as does her daily life, mother to four and wife to one. Her sculptural work often depicts life’s journey. She values the calming and neutralising effects of the ocean. Horizon hues are often present in her ceramic work.
Laura loves experimenting with clay and glaze combinations, and combines art with function, creating dramatic platters and bowls. She often lets the clay move in its own way instead of forcing a shape or form.
Her work is handmade and not production pottery.
