Laura Buchanan’s artwork evolves as her inspiration and use of different mediums evolves. Her work is known under the alter ego ‘Lulu’, her childhood nickname.
She can be found creating with clay at the Whanganui Potters Studio or in her home studio at Waiinu Beach. The ocean and natural environment offer her inspiration as does her daily life. Her sculptural work often depicts life’s journey.
Laura combines plaster, acrylics, and resin to create water scenes on canvas. She values the calming and neutralising effects of the ocean. Horizon hues are often present on her ceramic work.
Laura’s camera is always nearby, capturing New Zealand’s stunning scenery, flora and fauna. She is environmentally aware and promotes an appreciation for nature.
Studying He Papa Tikanga strengthened her respect and appreciation of Maori culture and their use of artwork to pass on knowledge and heritage.
She hopes her work provokes emotion.
