VARNA S THARAYIL

I am originally from the South Indian state of Kerala. I lived and studied in India and Dubai. I moved to Leeds in England with my husband and 5 years later we moved to New Zealand in 2008.

My mum is an artist, who has always been and continues to be an inspiration for me as has been my dad. From a young age I have been fascinated by abstracts. I like the way people connect in different ways to the same piece of art. It gives me a great sense of happiness, encouragement and accomplishment when people connect with my work. A big thank you to my husband and children who have been and continue to support me on this journey.

I work with mainly acrylic, resin and alcohol inks. I am very fond of colours which comes through in my paintings. I have mainly done pieces for close family and friends. Besides being a creative outlet, art is also a great stress reliever for me, as I focus on a new career in Psychology. My dream is to work with people using art as my medium.
